Blogger, David Farrar, to speak at Chamber BA5 at Child Matters
On Thursday, 6 October, Child Matters is hosting the Waikato Chamber of Commerce ‘Business After 5’ event.
Political blogger, David Farrar of www.Kiwiblog.co.nz, has been confirmed to speak on the night. David Farrar will be talking on the 2011 general elections, and reviewing both the polls and the performance of the political parties to date.
David writes for both the NZ Herald and Stuff websites, and is the editor of Kiwiblog, New Zealand’s most widely read blog. He also regularly commentates on Radio New Zealand, Newstalk ZB and Radio Live.
David worked in Parliament from 1996 to 2004 for four National Party Prime Ministers and Opposition Leaders. Since 2004 he has owned and managed Curia Market Research, a specialist polling and research company.
Child Matters CEO, Anthea Simcock, says in addition to featuring David Farrar, the BA5 will be full of announcements by the organisation and will include a few surprises.
“With David Farrar speaking on Thursday, our BA5 event is one not to be missed. David’s opinions are always a bit on the edge. With so much happening in the world of politics at the moment, his talk will surely be entertaining.
“In addition, we’ll be unveiling to the business community, our new conference room which is now available for hire.
“We will also be announcing Child Matters’ first ever Ambassador. We’ll be keeping the name of that person a secret until the night – all I can say is that we are delighted to welcome them aboard. It’s a real coup to be partnering with this high-profile, influential person. Their passion will help raise awareness of child abuse throughout New Zealand,” explains Mrs Simcock
Headquartered in Hamilton, Child Matters is the only organisation in New Zealand solely focused on child abuse prevention. It works to prevent child abuse by 1) speaking up for children; and 2) educating adults to identify and action child abuse. The organisation works nationally as a catalyst in communities, connecting organisations and building leaders who are making positive impacts on child abuse prevention.
Child Matters’ conference room, located on the ground floor of its headquarters at 480 Angelsea Street in Hamilton, is available for public use. All profits from the hire of the facility are used by Child Matters in their work to prevent child abuse.
“We are encouraging local businesses who are looking to hire a meeting facility to consider our conference room. All profits from the room hire will be put back into our charitable trust. By simply hiring our room, you can make a difference to the lives of children,” says Mrs Simcock.
The public is invited to the BA5 event. Event entry is free for Chamber members and $36+GST at the door for non-members. You can register for the event ahead of time by emailing:
