Gamblefree Day--1 September 2011
Tomorrow, Thursday 1 September, is Gamblefree Day.
Auckland events
9:00am: Waka on the Waitemata: Orakei Water Sports, 8 Tamaki Drive, Orakei. The event will start with a mihi whakatau
followed by free activities including waka ama experiences, workshops, stalls, competitions and lots of entertainment.
Hip Hop rapper Scribe, who is supporting Gamblefree Day and the Choice not Chance campaign, will be attending the event
between 11:30am and 1:30pm, getting involved in activities and presenting prizes.
12:00 noon: ASH and the Problem Gambling Foundation will stage a ‘wedding’ outside SkyCity Casino. ‘Big Cigarette’ will
marry a pokie machine in a street theatre event to protest against SkyCity's planned 'outdoor' balcony that will allow
gamblers to simultaneously smoke and play pokies.
5:30pm: Children’s Gamblefree Day poetry competition prize giving, Papatoetoe Town Hall. Scribe will be presenting the
prizes to the three place getters from each age category. The competition, which has attracted over 146 entries, was run
by Mapu Maia, the Problem Gambling Foundation's Pacific unit, and Radio Samoa.
