Quitline Launches New Online Quit Smoking Tools

Quitline Launches New Online Quit Smoking Tools on World Smokefree Day

Quitline has launched a range of new online support tools to coincide with this year’s World Smokefree Day (Tuesday 31 May). The tools include an interactive QuitCoach which gives users customised ideas and suggestions tailored to them. The free tools are available at www.quit.org.nz

“It’s about offering as much choice as possible,” says Quitline Chief Executive, Paula Snowden. She continues: “As well as getting help by phone or through a face-to-face provider, smokers wanting to give up can get online advice with the QuitCoach tool on our website. They can also order patches, gum or lozenges, sign up for text support, register for the Quit blogs and see how much money they are saving with the Quit Stats tool.

“The online support is easy to use and is available 24 hours a day seven days a week! The subsidised patches, gum or lozenges cost just $3 and all the tools are free of charge.”

Quitline clients, who have begun using the QuitCoach tool to help them give up smoking, have been positive about the tool’s benefits. One client says:

“I thought QuitCoach was fabulous - I found that when I was asked questions relating to my slip ups - the advice changed a little - and was more relevant to the situations that I was having. Rather than feeling a failure - I was able to just pick up and move onwards - and upwards!”

Tuesday 31 May 2011, World Smokefree Day, is all about supporting and celebrating Smokefree lives for New Zealanders everywhere. The day is an international event originally created by the World Health Organisation in 1988.

This year’s theme 'Me mutu - Kia kaha / Give quitting a go - you can do it', provides an opportunity to focus on supporting and encouraging smokers to make a quit attempt. The theme also lends itself to encouraging non-smokers to support friends and whānau on their quitting journey.
