Who is living New Zealand’s healthiest life?
Entries open for Weight Watchers Healthy Life Awards
May 19, 2011 - Weight Watchers is searching for New Zealand’s most amazing health and lifestyle transformation story with the official launch of the 2011 Weight Watchers Healthy Life Awards (HLA).
Healthy weight-loss, overcoming weight-related disease, and long-term lifestyle change are just a few of the criteria that will decide the 2011 winner of this long-running event which has seen New Zealand entrants lose a total of more than 22,000kgs since 2001.
The awards are open to individuals that have lost weight following the Weight Watchers program to be within a healthy weight range (BMI), with the ultimate winner crowned HLA New Zealand Slimmer of the Year. The awards also aim to encourage healthier lifestyles in the wider community with Family of the Year and Workplace of the Year categories. All contenders can enter at www.healthylifeawards.co.nz
With an array of fabulous prizes on offer, the New Zealand winner will receive a week’s holiday for two to the unimaginably beautiful Cook Islands, flying direct from Auckland with Air New Zealand. They will also take part in an exclusive Weight Watchers magazine photo shoot.
Weight Watchers spokesperson Bronwyn Stubbs said there were many life-changing and inspiring stories that deserved to be told and the competition is about celebration and reward for New Zealanders who have turned their lives around by embracing a healthier lifestyle.
“One in three New Zealand adults are currently overweight and obesity-related disease rates are on the rise, making it more important than ever that we publicly recognise those people within our society that have demonstrated that change is achievable and can act as inspiration for others.
“As the leading weight management support system, it is Weight Watchers responsibility to encourage and support New Zealand residents in all walks of life to embrace a healthier lifestyle.”
HLA New Zealand Slimmer of the Year 2010 Victoria Pinder recalls seeing a ‘hideous’ photo of herself on holiday in Fiji as the moment she decided to join Weight Watchers and reclaim her health.
“Joining Weight Watchers, and winning the title of New Zealand Slimmer of the Year, has been one of my biggest achievements. I’m so proud of what I’ve achieved and look forward to teaching my children the lifelong skills that will see them lead a healthy life.”
As a Platinum Partner of the New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation (NZBCF), Weight Watchers will donate $1 for each kilogram lost by this year’s entrants.
National winners will be announced at a glittering gala event in Sydney in November. The prize package will include a stay at Rarotonga's leading luxury romance resort in the Cook Islands, the Crown Beach Resort & Spa on the sunset coast in a luxurious ultra-private Courtyard Pool Suite complete with private pool, daily breakfast, snorkeling equipment, kayaks, airport transfers, a massage for two and an Island Feast & Cultural Extravaganza at Oceans Restaurant.
