Family violence is never okay
Family violence is never okay
Relationship Services Whakawhanaungatanga is deeply saddened to hear of an increase in family violence in Christchurch following last week’s earthquake.
Relationships can be under a great deal of pressure at times of crisis, says National Practice Manager JoAnn Vivian.
“The levels of stress Christchurch families are facing are enormous, but no matter how difficult the situation is, resorting to violence at times of stress is not okay.
“No matter how frustrated or angry you are, hurting yourself or others will make matters worse,” she says.
RSW has the following tips for people to deal with high levels of stress in their relationship:
If things are becoming tense step away from
the situation
Take some deep breaths
Take five, remind
yourself that you can manage and get through
If you are
feeling scared take yourself away and find someone safe to
be with.
If you are afraid for yourself or someone else
call the Police.
