Christchurch Earthquake response from Hawke’s Bay District Health Board
Seven Hawke’s Bay District Health Board nurses remain working at Christchurch Hospital. Five are expected to return to Hawke’s Bay today (28 February) with the remaining two nurses returning tomorrow.
Hawke’s Bay Hospital has two critically ill patients in ICU, who were retrieved from Christchurch Hospital on the night of the earthquake (Tuesday 22 February). These patients were existing ICU patients and transported to Hawke’s Bay Hospital to relieve pressure on Christchurch Hospital’s ICU Unit.
Two babies from Christchurch and their mothers were also flown to Hawke’s Bay Hospital’s Special Care Baby Unit on Friday February 25.
The families of the patients in ICU and the Special Care Baby Unit are being housed at Little Elms, Hastings. The DHB would like to thank members of the public and local businesses for the support they have provided to these families while they are in Hawke’s Bay
Hawke’s Bay District Health Board’s chaplaincy service will be holding a reflection service tomorrow from 12.30-1pm in the courtyard of Soldiers’ Memorial Chapel. Staff, visitors and patients are welcome to attend this service.
The DHB will also be observing two minutes of silence tomorrow (March 1) at 12.51pm, the exact time the earthquake struck Christchurch, to honour the earthquake victims. The flag above Hawke’s Bay Hospital will also fly at half mast throughout the day tomorrow. (March 1)
