Piri Weepu Auctions Cast for Sick Kids
Following the great success of his first cast auction, All Black and Vodafone Wellington Lions halfback Piri Weepu has
donated his second leg cast and a signed All Blacks test jersey to Wellington Hospitals and Health Foundation to be
auctioned in support of Wellington Children’s Hospital.
While in hospital, Piri was visited by patients in Wellington Children’s Hospital and also met 10 year old Connor a big
fan of Piri’s. Connor was in hospital following the removal of his kidney due to cysts and a tumour.
Piris first cast was donated by the Foundation to support Breast Cancer patients. It sold for $1,200.
Piri received the casts while being treated at Wellington Hospital following his infamous injury sustained during an ITM
Cup match again Taranaki in October 2010. Piri fractured his right fibula and tibia and dislocated his ankle when he was
tackled by Taranaki lock James Broadhurst on 16th October 2010.
Like all Vodafone Wellington Lions, Piri is a great supporter of Wellington Hospitals and Health Foundation and has
visited Wellington Children’s Hospital on several occasions. His second cast will be auctioned to benefit Wellington
Children’s Hospital in a few weeks.
Funds raised through this auction will be used to support Wellington Children’s Hospital.
