Fresh Future cheque presentation
Canterbury District Health Board (CDHB)’s Children’s Health division has gratefully received a cheque for $75,000 as
their share of this year’s Fresh Future Appeal funds.
The campaign, run by Progressive Enterprises has raised $400,000 in four years for CDHB.
The cheque was presented by Brett Ashley – General Manager Fresh Future, who said Progressive is passionate about the
wellbeing of children in New Zealand.
“The campaign has raised nearly $4 million in four years nationally and we are not going to stop. We, our 19,000 staff
and our customers, are committed to this.
“We know we have got good hospitals staffed by good people in New Zealand but to get the best equipment does require
extra funding and that’s what we are here for.”
Many events had been held to help raise the national total which this year came to $760,000, a little less than usual
due to the interruption caused by the Canterbury earthquake, he said.
CDHB General Manager, Womens and Childrens Health, Pauline Clark, said it was a superb amount of money.
“We are extremely grateful. There are so many good causes out there that you could be putting your time and energy into
but you choose to give it to us. We are very humbled by that.”
Some of the money received will be used for the Play with a Purpose programme, which helps distract children while they
have treatment or procedures done; glucose monitors; bed wetting
alarms; a score system which helps medical professionals assess a child’s development; and a fibre optic laryngoscope
used to train staff to intubate child patients.
The 2010 Fresh Future Appeal was launched in August. The funds go to dedicated children’s wards at 10 New Zealand
hospitals including Christchurch, Dunedin, Waikato and Wellington
Hospitals as well as Kidz First Children’s Hospital, in Auckland.
Literally hundreds of local fundraising events were held and during the appeal customers placed donations in collection
boxes or bought raffle tickets in stores. Personal donations were
also received from Progressive Enterprises.
The Appeal runs across Countdown, Woolworths, Foodtown, SuperValue, Fresh Choice, Dick Smith stores and support offices
nationwide.
