Here's to our army of change makers

Please join the Royal New Zealand Foundation of the Blind (RNZFB) this Sunday 5 December, International Volunteer Day, in recognising and appreciating New Zealand's unsung heroes. In applauding volunteers of all causes, who give their time and energy to brighten the lives of others.

As a non-profit organisation, the RNZFB relies on the selfless support of volunteers to provide its essential services to blind and partially sighted New Zealanders.

Alison Marshall, National Manager Volunteer Services, says that volunteers provide vital support to the RNZFB in a variety of ways.

"Our volunteers organise and coordinate social and peer-support events. They make access to literature possible through their support of our talking book programme. They provide companionship and support, play an important role in the Guide Dog Services programme, help out during street appeals, and undertake a myriad of other roles. Much of this work is undertaken quietly behind the scenes, yet these volunteers make the world of difference to the lives of those they touch," says Alison.

Over a million New Zealanders are regularly involved in some form of volunteer activity, and the RNZFB is grateful that many choose to support the sight-loss cause.

So please join the RNZFB in applauding and celebrating the momentous difference volunteers make to the lives of so many New Zealanders.
