No Emergency Ambulance Fees for Wellington
Wellington Free Ambulance has moved today to assure all Wellingtonians that the ambulance service in Wellington will
remain free-to-the-patient, as it has been since 1927.
This assurance has come on the back of St John raising prices to unprecedented new levels.
Wellington Free Ambulance Chief Executive Alan O'Beirne said “It is our belief at Wellington Free Ambulance that there
should be no barriers to accessing healthcare and this includes worrying about the cost of calling for an ambulance in
an emergency”.
Mr O’Beirne believes that ambulance services in New Zealand should be free-to-the-patient.
"The capital's iconic ambulance service is pioneering a model of care that is unique to our region and is world class in
its delivery.
Wellington Free Ambulance currently provides the country's only free emergency ambulance service to all Wellingtonians.
Mr O'Beirne said patients should not have to worry about paying for ambulance services in their time of need and if
Wellington Free Ambulance operated in other regions, those patients wouldn’t have to worry about paying for ambulance
care either in their time of need.
