Welcome on board John Key
The National Network of Stopping Violence Services (NNSVS) is delighted that the Prime Minister John Key has agreed to
be a White Ribbon Day ambassador.
The Families Commission made the announcement about the Prime Minister this morning (White Ribbon Day – 25 November).
NNSVS manager Brian Gardner says leadership at all levels is a critical issue when it comes to stopping domestic
violence and John Key will be a great role model for men throughout the country.
“Domestic violence thrives in silence so it is really exciting to see our most senior politician taking a public stance
against violence towards women.”
Mr Gardner hopes that other public servants will follow Mr Key’s lead.
“The leadership of the Prime Minister shows all New Zealanders that there is commitment at the highest levels to see our
country become the safest place in the world for our women and girls. We sincerely hope that the government sector will
take their lead from Mr Key and strengthen policy development and resourcing for community groups who are working to
stop domestic violence in their regions. ”
