Violence against women is a scourge on our society
The New Zealand Federation of Business and Professional Women (BPWNZ) support the Families Commission and White Ribbon Day to stop violence against women.
“New Zealand’s record for violence against women is appalling,” BPWNZ President Angela McLeod said.
Statistics show that one in three women will suffer at the hand of an intimate partner at some stage in their lifetime, there are over 3500 convictions recorded against men each year for assaults on women and an average of 14 women a year are killed by their partners or ex partners.
“That is 14 women too many.
“White Ribbon Day highlights the issue of violence against women in our homes which in turn hurts our communities and our businesses.
“Violence against women affects their ability to meet their full potential which in turn affects the health and well-being of the family and productivity in the workplace.
“Let’s get rid of this scourge on our society,” said Mrs McLeod.
