SFO decides to press charges in ACC fraud case
In April the Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC) referred a potential staff fraud matter to the Serious Fraud Office (SFO) for investigation. The issues in question were property related.
The staff member was dismissed at the time for failing to follow internal ACC policies and procedures.
“The SFO has now advised us that it has completed its investigation and charges have been laid”, said Dr Jan White, ACC Chief Executive.
“While this whole issue has been unwelcome, we are pleased that our decision to refer the matter to the SFO has been justified”.
“Since this matter became known to us we have reviewed our processes and are satisfied that they are robust. We take all fraud very seriously and will not tolerate it. In this case, like all others, we acted as soon as suspicions were raised”.
"Given that this matter is now to be heard before the courts, ACC will not be making any further public comment at this stage”.
