Drinking Harms Many Relationships
Drinking harms many relationships said Relationship Services, New Zealand’s largest counselling agency, as it endorsed ALAC’s latest ‘Ease up on the drink’ ad.
“Many of the people we work with tell us of the pain and damage when a partner is drinking heavily, and it is good to see ALAC highlighting this issue in their latest ad,” said Jeff Sanders, Chief Executive of Relationship Services.
Raise the issue and get help and support early is the advice from Relationship Services. “The longer the problem goes on, the more damage is caused,” said Mr Sanders.
Once the issue has been raised many, many couples will need some specialist services or relationship counselling to help deal both with the problem and the impact of drinking on their relationship. “Some free counselling is available from Relationship Services to help in this situation.”
“Sadly, alcohol and violence can go hand in hand for some people, so if you are scared or worried about how they will respond to you raising the issue, talk to a trusted professional about how you can do this safely,” said Mr Sanders.
