Nurses Organisation celebrates International Nurses Day
The New Zealand Nurses Organisation (NZNO) today proudly celebrates International Nurses Day, which falls on the anniversary of the birth of the world’s most famous nurse, Florence Nightingale.
The theme for this year is “Delivering Quality, Serving Communities: Nurses Leading Chronic Care” and the International Council of Nurses (ICN) aims to raise awareness of the nursing contribution to dealing with chronic care.
NZNO agrees with the ICN that everyone should have access to appropriate, affordable care for people with chronic conditions.
NZNO CEO Geoff Annals adds “It’s also extremely important that we invest in prevention as well as cure We are proud to be working towards a society where chronic disease no longer takes the toll it does now.
“There is an urgent need for nurses everywhere to take the initiative and engage with all parts of the community and all sectors to address the growing threat that chronic diseases pose to the health and well-being of all New Zealanders.
“With knowledge, courage, vision and commitment nurses are well placed to take a lead role in improving the health of our communities. Nurses in New Zealand are innovative professionals with a wealth of skills and knowledge. International Nurses Day is one opportunity to celebrate the work they do,” Geoff Annals said.
