Surgeon’s Donation Boosts Stellar Income from Festival

A leading Auckland surgeon who has worked on many victims of P related crimes made the single biggest donation to the Stellar Trust during the recent Auckland Seafood Festival.

The anti P organisation was the main beneficiary from the Seafood Festival with more than $70,000 raised for the Trust during the popular Auckland waterfront event.

The surgeon, who doesn’t wish to be named, bid $2,200 for a day on the New Zealand Customs patrol vessel, Hawk. He has worked on several high profile victims of P related crimes including those attacked by samurai sword wielding P addict Antonie Dixon.

New Zealand Customs was one of the main exhibitors at the festival and the Stellar Trust also has close links with Customs as the two organisations battle against the harm caused by pure methamphetamine (P) in New Zealand.

Stellar Trust chairman Alistair Burry welcomed the significant boost to the Trust’s resources which are being used to educate New Zealanders about the dangers of P, to influence policy and to support measures aimed at stopping the harmful impacts of P on New Zealand society.

“The level of public support we saw during the Seafood Festival for what the Trust is doing was very heartening,” said Mr Burry. “More than 3,300 people signed up for our Friends of the Trust programme while our food stall –specialising in chocolate prawns – and sales of the Pure Indulgence chocolate cook book raised $10,000 which is included in the overall funds raised for the Trust’s activities.

“When that’s added to the support we’ve had from foundation sponsor GlaxoSmithKline Consumer Healthcare, who are supporting our education programme, and the proceeds of another summer holiday event in Hawke’s Bay I believe the Trust is starting to gain real fund raising momentum.”
