Nurses on National Health Board

Media Release:

Nurses on National Health Board

The New Zealand Nurses Organisation (NZNO) is pleased that the National Health Board (NHB), announced today, will have strong nursing representation.

“The formation of the NHB is a positive step forward in building a nationally integrated health care service. The NHB has an extremely important role in ensuring our health system is meeting the nation’s needs. The board has representation from the primary, secondary and tertiary health sectors which will be invaluable in achieving a seamless integration across the continuum of services for patients,” NZNO Kaiwhakahare, Kerri Nuku said.

“We are particularly delighted that Marion Guy, former NZNO president, current NZNO board member and director of the International Council of Nurses, will be on the NHB. Mrs Guy has sound knowledge of nursing on a international, national and local level and she currently works as a nurse in clinical practice,” NZNO President, Nano Tunnicliff said.

We welcome Mary Gordon’s appointment. Ms Gordon is a nurse who understands the value of communication; an extremely experienced nursing leader with significant strategic and managerial responsibilities. She has developed robust relationships in both the primary health and the education sectors and her leadership in innovation has benefited the health of Cantabrians.

“NZNO is pleased to see that there is high level of strategic Maori leadership on the board as Maori have some of the worst health outcomes in our communities. It is extremely important that the new NHB is actively working to address the disparity in health,” Nuku said.

“We are confident that the NHB will value engagement and communication with frontline staff and we will welcome any opportunity to engage with the NHB,” Tunnicliff said.
