Fresh Future Appeal Raises $55,000 for Southland Hospital Children’s Services

Children’s Services at Southland Hospital was fortunate to receive a cheque for $55,000 today from the Fresh Future Children’s Hospital Appeal, following on from the two month nationwide appeal led by Progressive Enterprises.

“We want to thank the Fresh Future Trust and Progressive staff for their amazing efforts in raising significant funds for Children’s Services across the country,” said Southland DHB Director of Nursing and Midwifery (Women and Children) Jenny Humphries.

“It is wonderful to see so many people from many stores come together and encourage New Zealanders to help support the care of sick children – the Trust and community’s continued enthusiasm and commitment is humbling,” she said.

Children’s Services, Southland Hospital would be very keen to see donation used for the upgrade of cots and beds within the ward, lazy boy chairs for parents staying overnight and monitoring equipment for the establishment of a high dependency room within the children’s ward.

The donation was presented to Southland Hospital by Jeremy Samuels, Store Manager of Countdown Eastgate, and Ruth Krippner, Chair of the Fresh Future Charitable Trust, in the Children’s Ward Playroom this morning with Southland DHB Management, Children’s Services staff, staff of Progressive Enterprises, patients and supporters in attendance.

The Fresh Future Children’s Hospital appeal, which ran from 3 August to 27 September, was part of a nationwide fundraising venture by staff from Countdown, Woolworths, Foodtown, Fresh Choice, SuperValue, support offices, and Dick Smith stores to raise funds for ten dedicated children’s hospitals and wards across the country.

More than $900,000 was raised in this year’s appeal, increasing the total raised since 2007, to over $3million.

Southland Hospital has received $120,000 during this period.
