Culmination of Fundraising for Southland Hospital Children’s Services in Fresh Future Hospital Appeal to be revealed this Friday

Excitement and anticipation are growing at Southland Hospital Children’s Services, with its share of funds raised in this year’s Fresh Future Children’s Hospital Appeal to be revealed at a cheque presentation this Friday.

The appeal, which ran from 3 August to 27 September, was part of a nationwide fundraising venture by staff from Countdown, Woolworths, Foodtown, Fresh Choice, SuperValue, and Dick Smith stores to raise funds for children’s wards across the country through the Fresh Future Charitable Trust.

Despite the recession, this year’s appeal raised over $900,000, with 98% of it to go straight to ten dedicated children’s hospitals and wards, including Southland Hospital.  (Over $3million has been raised in the last three appeals.)

This is the second year that the Southland Hospital Children’s Services has been a recipient of the appeal, with the department receiving $65,000 in 2008. This was used to purchase essential equipment for the neo natal unit, equipment and resources to assist with physiotherapy and child development, a training manikin for simulating clinical scenarios and oximeters.

Children’s Ward Clinical Nurse Leader Marie Irvine said this year staff and the community had again shown excellent support for the initiative. “We are grateful for everyone’s efforts, as this funding allows us to purchase items that we would not otherwise be able to.”

Gladstone Pre School will also perform at the event, followed by light refreshments.
