New Zealand Landmarks to Spotlight
Breast Cancer in October
Major landmarks throughout New Zealand will be glowing pink to mark the start of Breast Cancer ACTION Month 2009.
Pink floodlights will light up fourteen prominent New Zealand landmarks from October 1st as part of the Global Illumination campaign, focusing attention on the vital awareness and fundraising activities of The New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation during Breast Cancer ACTION Month.
The landmarks, from the Whangarei’s Old Municipal Chambers in the north to the Invercargill’s Water Tower in the South, join an international group of over 200 landmarks lighting up pink, including the Empire State Building, Kensington Palace, Sydney Harbour Bridge, Table Mountain and Niagara Falls.
The antipodean time zone ensures the New Zealand landmarks will be first in the world to be lit up on October 1st.
Heather Shotter, Executive Trustee of The New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation is thrilled by the support of the communities involved.
“This year the focus of our October campaign is on ACTION against breast cancer and it is great to see these communities taking action by illuminating prominent landmarks in their towns. We hope that the pink-lit landmarks will inspire the public to take ACTION against breast cancer in October,” she says.
The Foundation’s major fundraising event, the Pink Ribbon Street Appeal, will be held on Friday 9th October 2009. Keep a look out for members of the Pink Army in your area and please give generously.
Breast Cancer ACTION Month is The New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation’s annual awareness and fundraising event. This year The Foundation is encouraging all New Zealanders to play their part by taking ACTION and encouraging their loved ones to go for regular mammograms and be ‘breast aware’.
Other ways you can take ACTION in October include:
· Buying a Pink Ribbon on Pink Ribbon Day, Friday 9th October
· Taking the Pink Ribbon Challenge and committing to a healthy challenge related to the number ‘9’
