Student Job Search taps its best resource in the search for the ‘big idea’
AUCKLAND – 10 August 2009 – Student Job Search has demonstrated the ultimate vote of confidence in its pool of highly-skilled, work-ready student talent. It has asked them to come up with a winning way to promote the organisation to employers and is now set to implement a creative campaign designed by Canterbury University student, Sebastian Boyle.
SJS’s Marketing and Communications Manager, Lorna McConnon, said students were invited to compete in the ‘SJS Big Idea Competition,’ the aim of which was to come up with a creative and compelling advertising campaign to encourage employers to hire students next summer.
“We know we have a huge talent base out there, so asking students to come up with their own clever approach to promoting our service makes a lot of sense”, says Miss McConnon.
Of the hundreds of entries, 12 finalists were contracted by Student Job Search for 40 hours to produce what they thought would be a successful campaign. Sebastian Boyle’s idea, the competition winner, resonated well with the five industry judges including Lee Parkinson, Digital Strategist at Ikon Communications and former Cannes Lions International Adfest Judge.
"Overall I was impressed with the obvious thought that the students had put into their entries”, says Mr Parkinson. “However we were really looking for the complete package, a truly campaignable idea with some demonstration of how far the idea could be stretched, both creatively and in terms of channel. Sebastian was the pick of the bunch and is a deserved winner", he said.
Mr Boyle is the winner of $1000 cash and an Acer Notebook, his creative work will be used in Student Job Search’s upcoming campaign to attract businesses and households who need workers on a multitude of levels.
