Look For The Blue Spca Tick At The Auckland Food Show
Generic logo provides guarantee of cruelty-free food production.
The Royal New
Zealand SPCA is urging visitors to this week's Auckland
Food
Show to look for its 'Blue Tick' logo.
The logo
will be making its first outing at a major food show as the
SPCA's
generic symbol for guaranteeing that food has been
produced in cruelty-free
conditions.
The Society will
be serving sizzlingly delicious bacon and eggs at
its
stand, right through the Show, at the ASB Showground,
from Thursday 30th
July to Sunday 2nd August, using food
supplied entirely by producers
compliant with the SPCA's
own animal welfare standards. The Blue Tick will
be
prominently displayed on the SPCA's stand.
"A large and
growing percentage of New Zealanders is opting for
humanely
produced foods and is seeking clear, reliable
and unambiguous labelling,
says the Royal New Zealand
SPCA's National Chief Executive,
Robyn Kippenberger.
"We introduced the Blue Tick logo to designate pork, ham
and bacon produced
by humane methods without the use of
sow stalls or farrowing crates. We've
also now extended
its use to our well-established eggs accreditation
scheme,
that provides consumers with the guarantee that
their eggs are produced
cage-free and not in
tightly-constrained caged conditions.
"Our Blue Tick is an
easily recognisable, generic symbol, guaranteeing
that
the items in the packaging have been produced under
conditions that meet our
own rigorous and comprehensive
animal welfare standards. The right to use
this logo is
only granted to producers who are willing to undergo
regular
and detailed SPCA auditing of their
operations.
"At the Food Show, we plan to demonstrate that
humanely-produced food is
also delicious food. We
believe that our Blue Tick will quickly become
recognised
as a mark of food quality, as well as signifying
cruelty-free
production. These two characteristics
normally go hand in hand," she
says.
