Hastings Hot on Fundraising
Hastings Hot on Fundraising
Hastings City will turn Hot Pink for a week in September as the entire City fundraises in support of The New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation (NZBCF).
Hastings City Marketing announced a new fundraising event this week called Hot Pink, a charity cocktail party designed to galvanise the entire city into fundraising. The event embraces the region’s leading wineries who will showcase their 2009 Rosé wines and Hot Pink poet, Penny Ashton will make a cameo appearance. “The MC for the event will be Pinky Agnew and Dish Catering has come to the party with pink themed canapés”, said Natalie Stevens, Manager -Hastings City Marketing.
Proceeds will benefit The NZBCF initiatives and programmes. The event will be supported by both Hastings retailers, who will sell NZBCF pink ribbons and wrist bands and be charged to dress in pink on 11th September, the day of the event. The Hastings District Council is also behind the event and will have a pink theme through the city gardens and the Clock Tower will be glowing pink.
But it’s more than just a funky party. It’s part of a branding strategy we launched last year to regenerate the heart of the city. Called ‘Hastings Alive, ‘Shopping in the heart of Hawke’s Bay’ the brand needed to be to be more than just lip service so we have a strategy whereby we provide opportunities for charities and not for profit organisations to fundraise. Last year we profiled the NZ Blood Bank in the city, helping with a drive for more blood donors. We also showcased the Surf Life Saving National Jandal day with boat races and jandal throwing competitions, right in the middle of Hastings.
This year we will provide an opportunity for the Cranford Hospice Strawberry Festival and of course Hot Pink which will become an annual charity event. “Breast cancer is such an insidious disease and I doubt there are many whose lives haven’t been profoundly affected by it,” said Natalie. “It’s fantastic knowing that our entire community from the Council to retailers to wineries will get right behind this event.”
NZBCF Executive Trustee, Heather Shotter is enthusiastic about Hot Pink. “Community events such as this one are the heart and soul of our fundraising to fight breast cancer. All around the country a lot of people put in a lot of hard work but also have a lot of fun for a good cause. The generosity of New Zealanders never ceases to amaze and inspire me” says Ms Shotter.
Hot Pink will be held at the Hawke’s Bay Opera
