IHC looks to Government for solution

8 July 2009

IDEA Services will be looking to the Crown for a solution to today's Employment Court judgment about the definition of work and paying the minimum wage when staff are sleeping over.

IHC and IDEA Services' General Manager Human Resources David Timms says that the consequences for IDEA Services are very serious.

"However, today's judgment impacts on the retirement sector, boarding schools and many other sectors, not just the disability sector or this organisation.

"There is no money to pay the millions of dollars we would need to pay the minimum wage to all staff who sleep over. Our services are solely funded by Government and we are looking to Government for a solution to this situation.

"We value the work that our nearly 7,000 staff do, day and night. We pay them what government funds us to pay.

The consequences of the judgment will be devastating for many businesses, not just ours.
