Celebrating National Enrolled Nurses' Day

Media Release:

Celebrating National Enrolled Nurses' Day

The New Zealand Nurses Organisation (NZNO) is delighted to be celebrating Enrolled Nurses’ Day on 30 June 2009. This is the 5th time this day has been celebrated in New Zealand.

“As an EN with 17 years experience, I believe it is important we celebrate and mark our place within the New Zealand health care environment. ENs have a valuable job to do,” said NZNO enrolled nurses section chairperson, Robyn Hewlett.

NZNO professional nursing advisor Suzanne Rolls has been involved in the advancement of enrolled nursing. “2009 has been an exciting year for enrolled nursing, with the government announcement that training for the EN qualification is back on the agenda and that the government supports the re-establishment of the role in our health system,”

“ENs are also preparing to respond to the consultation document from the Nursing Council of New Zealand about their scope of practice and the way they work,” Rolls said.

“Enrolled nurses (ENs) around the country are celebrating in various ways. In the southern region dinners are being held in Dunedin, Invercargill and on the West Coast. In the north island, Palmerston North ENs are having an education session on the New Zealand Nursing Council’s direction and delegation guidelines. Elsewhere, ENs are decorating their wards and hospitals to mark the day,” said Hewlett
