Burnside Contacts Provided With Tamiflu

.The 13 year-old brother of yesterday’s two confirmed cases of Influenza A (H1N1) in Canterbury has been confirmed as having Influenza A.

“It has not yet been confirmed that he has Influenza A (H1N1) but it is looking highly likely,” Canterbury Medical Officer of Health Dr Ramon Pink said.

“Because we can be almost certain that he has this highly contagious influenza we are providing Tamiflu to the 50 Burnside High School pupils who had been in contact with him,” he said.

Parents of the pupils are being asked to collect Tamiflu from the School this evening.

Three children from the Tino E Tasi Pre-School have also been confirmed as having Influenza A. They were also contacts of one of yesterday’s confirmed cases.

These children, their families and other contacts at the Pre-School are being treated with Tamiflu and are being isolated at home.

Anyone who is unwell with flu-like symptoms and has travelled overseas recently is reminded that they should phone a General Practitioner or Healthline on 0800 611 116.
