Third Case of Influenza A (H1N1) in Canterbury

SUBJECT: Third Confirmed Case of Influenza A (H1N1) in Canterbury

A third case of Influenza A (H1N1) has been confirmed in Canterbury, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in New Zealand to 20.

The woman was a passenger on Flight LAN 801 which arrived in Auckland from Chile on Thursday 4 June 2009.

Canterbury Medical Officer of Health Dr Alistair Humphrey said, “the woman has the unpleasant symptoms of the flu but is not seriously unwell. She has isolated herself from other people and been given Tamiflu”.

Passengers that were near the woman on the flight to Auckland are being contacted.

Anyone who is unwell with flu-like symptoms and has travelled overseas in the last seven days should phone a General Practitioner or Healthline on 0800 611 116.
