Health Resources website launched

Health Resources website launched

Year 8 Masterton Intermediate Student Chelsea Beech had ‘inside information’ when it came to preparing for her school speech competition entry on ‘Sugar and Fizz’ last week. Thanks to her mum Debbie, who works for Wairarapa Public Health, Chelsea knew Wairarapa DHB was about to launch a new ‘health resources’ section on their website www.wairarapa.dhb.org.nz, and she was able to access leaflets and a poster to support her speech.

Chelsea chose her topic because she has a keen interest in food and what’s in it – she wants to be a chef when she leaves school, and healthy food choices are already on her menu.

“I wanted to be able to show everyone just how much sugar there is fizzy drinks,” said Chelsea. “People don’t realise they can be drinking up to 18 teaspoons of sugar in one bottle. You can tell them, but showing them works better. I think I had the best poster to support my speech.”

“Chelsea was probably one of the first users of the new site,” says DHB Communications Advisor Jill Stringer. “There’s a huge range of health information resources, pamphlets and posters available and Public Health manage their distribution. The challenge has always been letting people know what was there, and that usually meant a trip to the Choice Health building in Chapel Street to have a look. Now people have the choice of ordering the free resources online via the website. We think this will be really useful for students doing health related projects at school, health professionals and individuals or interest groups throughout the Wairarapa. Anyone can order material through the ‘Resources’ button on the front page of the DHB website.”

Ends.
