Members of Abortion Standards Committee Resign

Secret Members of Abortion Standards Committee Resign

The Abortion Supervisory Committee [ASC] has disclosed that the members of a recently established Abortion Standards Committee have resigned. The purpose of the Committee was to advise the ASC on recommendations for the performance of abortions in New Zealand; they were an important constituent of the abortion industry and were thus promoters of a culture of death. The controversial duties of the Committee have now been delegated to one unidentified person.

The names of the members of the Committee are a closely guarded secret. Right to Life had previously sought the names of the appointees under the Official Information Act from the ASC, the information request was refused.

The reason given by the ASC for this dramatic mass resignation was the members refused to continue in their roles because of a concern that disclosure of their identities would lead to improper pressure or harassment of themselves and their families. Right to Life believes that this reason is unfounded. The real harassment and violence in the abortion industry is imposed on helpless and defenceless unborn children in our hospitals and abortion clinics by doctors who are committed to terminating the lives of the unborn. Right to Life believes that the real reason is shame; doctors do not want the community or their professional colleagues to be aware that they are involved in the killing of unborn children. Their involvement would also have a detrimental effect on their medical practice. What family would want to place the care of their children into the care of a doctor who accepted the killing of an unborn child as an acceptable medical practice?

Right to Life is greatly encouraged by the knowledge that District Health Boards are having increasing difficulty in enticing doctors and nursing staff to violate their professional ethics to protect all human life from conception to natural death and to assist in killing defenceless unborn children. Right to Life applauds those doctors and nurses who refuse to be involved in abortion and who promote a culture of life. The resignation of the members of the Committee is good news for our unborn children and their mothers. It is clear that doctors involved in abortion are increasingly developing a siege mentality.
