Influenza A (H1N1) Swine Flu – Update Twenty

The most recent situation report at 4pm Sunday 3 May shows:
4 confirmed cases – unchanged since yesterday
13 probable cases – up one since yesterday

There are also 89 suspected cases (down 12 from 101 on Saturday). These are people who have developed symptoms of influenza within seven days of having been in the areas of concern or are close contacts of cases and have flu-like symptoms.

In total there are 360 people in isolation or quarantine and being treated with Tamiflu (up 91 from 269 on Saturday). This includes suspected cases and people without symptoms who are being isolated as a precaution because they were in close contact with a suspected case.

These numbers will fluctuate as a result of more suspected cases being found, or suspected cases being ruled out.

Contact tracing

The additional probable case in Auckland arrived on flight NZ7 from San Francisco on Tuesday 28 April.

The person has tested positive for Influenza A and samples have been sent to ESR as part of further testing to determine whether or not they have Influenza A (H1N1) Swine Flu.

In the meantime, contact tracing has begun – that involves following-up people who have had close contact with the probable case, including the passengers two rows in front and two rows behind on the flight involved.
