Jacinda Ardern joins fight against asthma
Young gun Labour MP Jacinda Ardern has voiced her support for the Asthma and Respiratory Foundation’s Balloon Day campaign.
Ms Ardern, who is also Labour’s youth spokesperson says: “I absolutely support work to fight asthma and other respiratory illnesses that have such an impact on people’s quality of life.
‘About 1 in 4 Kiwi kids have asthma and we need to work preventatively to improve our respiratory health – the Labour team is doing a lot of work around warmer healthier houses for example.
‘There are some really worrying statistics out there, such as asthma is the most common reason for the hospitalisation of our children and young people in Aotearoa. We need to get behind campaigns like this that raise awareness and money for childhood asthma research and this is one of the reasons I’m supporting Balloon Day.’
The Balloon Day events day is on Saturday 9 May, 2009 and Asthma Awareness Week runs from 4 to 10 May. On and around Balloon Day a number of Asthma societies, hospitals, medical centres, pharmacies, public libraries and schools around the country will be running promotions and fun activities.
