Challenge to all Kiwis: Get Creative for Asthma!
The Asthma and Respiratory Foundation is challenging people to do what they can with the Foundation’s new red balloons to raise awareness of the fact that about 1 in 4 Kiwi kids can’t even inflate a balloon because their asthma won’t let them.
‘Asthma
Awareness Week is coming up [4-10 May, 2009] and we are
saying “do what you can with our red balloons. Serious
creativity will not go unrewarded.”
A tip: there are
some amazing balloon sculptures around. Google it, see what
I mean,’ says Foundation Communications Manager, Malcolm
Aitken.
‘We thought this was a fun, interesting way to remind people that asthma still impacts on so many Kiwi kids’ lives,’ Malcolm says.
‘This illness is the leading reason for Kiwi kids and young people being hospitalised. It takes a huge toll on our country in terms of days lost off work and school, let alone the strain asthma puts on our hospitals.’
Malcolm says the only rule of the competition is that you have to use one or more of the Foundation’s balloons and there’s a funky little vacuum cleaner and some warm, snuggly and low-allergy bedding as prizes for those who get most creative.
For balloons and more information: info@asthmafoundation.org.nz with Get Creative in the subject field and the number of balloons you would like. Closes 22 June, 2009.
