Nurses Disappointed over Cancelled Conference

Media Release:

Nurses Organisation Disappointed over Cancelled Primary Health Conference

The New Zealand Nurses Organisation is deeply disappointed the Ministry of Health has cancelled the Primary Focus 3 Conference, scheduled for less than 6 weeks time.

“It is imperative that the National government encourage sharing of innovative primary health practice models and their outcomes so that it can deliver on the Primary Health Care Strategy,” Angela Clark, NZNO Professional Nursing Advisor, said.

The Ministry signalled poor attendance of only 300 registrants, as well as little attraction for sponsorship, as the reason for cancelling the conference.

“The Minister needs to signal that changing practice is critical to enhancing the health outcomes for New Zealanders. This announcement comes at a time when the health dollar needs to be used strategically.  The opportunity for networking and learning about new and better health services which are emerging as a result of the Primary Health Care Strategy, is imperative and the New Zealand Nurses’ Organisation is disturbed at this cancellation,” Clark said.
