Fresh Future Appeal – Support our Walkers!
MEDIA RELEASE
SUBJECT: Fresh Future Appeal – Support our Walkers!
Some Canterbury District Health Board (CDHB) staff are helping support the Fresh Future Charitable Trust by joining walkers on the Canterbury leg of a charity walk/cycle from Invercargill to Auckland at the end of this week.
The walk will take two days, covering more than 90 kilometres to raise money for children's services.
On Friday (12 September), participating CDHB staff will join the walk stage that Progressive Enterprises staff are undertaking from Ashburton to Christchurch, arriving outside the Riverside entrance of Christchurch Hospital at 5pm. The walkers will leave Templeton at 2:15pm and Countdown, Church Corner at 4:15pm to walk to the hospital.
The public are invited to look out for the walkers, encourage them on their way and make donations.
Anne Morgan, CDHB Service Manager for Children's Health said she was impressed with the enthusiasm and commitment of those involved.
"This year we hope to raise even more funds for CDHB's children's services. What better way for our staff to support this initiative than by getting out there and enjoying the health benefits of exercise with colleagues and friends,” she said.
The charity walk/cycle is just one of many fundraising activities contributing to The Fresh Future Appeal, which aims to give sick children a fresh future. Last year CDHB children’s services received more than $200,000, a share of more than $1M raised by New Zealanders.
The CDHB is encouraging Canterbury people to 'guess the steps' taken by Progressive Enterprises Managing Director, Peter Smith from Ashburton to Canterbury. Pay $2 and fill in your entry form at any Foodtown, Countdown, Woolworths, SuperValue and FreshChoice store. People can also donate $3 by texting kids to 883.
