Shortland St actor’s efforts for asthma appreciated

29 July, 2008

Shortland Street actor Alison Quigan’s decision to donate proceeds from the sale of a plate she hand-painted to the Asthma and Respiratory Foundation has been warmly welcomed by Foundation Executive Director, Jane Patterson.

Alison (who plays Yvonne Jefferies) and other “Shorty” stars painted the plates that were auctioned on Trade Me in connection with a story New Idea magazine ran on the 4000th episode of Shortland Street recently. Stars donated to their charity of choice.

“Alison’s generosity in donating the proceeds of her fun artwork to us is really cool. She’s raising awareness and it sounds like her family, like so many other Kiwi families, has had to deal with the challenges asthma creates in people’s lives, “Jane says.

Alison says that her daughter had had asthma for years and the Foundation was always really helpful.

Jane: “It’s always good to get positive feedback about our helpfulness because asthma can bring a lot of uncertainty and fear with it, not just for the person who has asthma, but their family and friends.”

Alison says her design was inspired by the beauty of flowers.
