HBDHB exceeds target in elective services
The Hawke’s Bay District Health Board achieved the best elective services result in the Central Region over the past year.
Warrick Frater chief operating officer for the Hawke’s Bay District Health Board told the public Commission meeting today that the result was a fantastic effort considering the hospital had been 14 percent below target at October last year.
Overall the result was 103% meaning more elective services, than were targeted, were performed, he said.
“This had been a huge amount of work from all sorts of people, front line and back office, and it couldn’t have been achieved without their commitment,” Mr Frater said
The orthopaedic team performed 536 operations 37 joint replacements more than their target, and ophthalmology performed 515 operations which was right on target despite being one surgeon down for most of the year, he said.
”Turning the result around in such an emphatic way is an absolute credit to everyone involved, especially given the relentless volume of acute patients that presented to the hospital across all the sectors.”
Mr Frater said outsourcing of some surgery had helped.
‘But month on month, since October staff had been able to better the expected target especially in operating theatre volumes,” he said.
