Spotless' inaction may lead to rolling strikes in hospitals
The Service and Food Workers Union Nga Ringa Tota today delivered notices to Spotless Services for rolling 55 minute
strikes of 800 public hospital cleaners, service workers and orderlies, starting from one minute past midnight on the
22nd April.
SFWU members warn that the strikes will go ahead if their employer Spotless Services does not sign their collective
agreement and start to pay the new rates that were agreed over 9 months ago.
"All the other contractors and District Health Boards have agreed, are paying the rates and have sorted out back-pay for
our members. Spotless needs to act now and do the same." said SFWU National Secretary John Ryall
"While we support Spotless and the DHB's sorting out their funding issues through mediation and arbitration what has
been forgotten is that our members have still not been paid their new $14.25 per hour rate." Mr Ryall said.
"If Spotless doesn't agree to paying the new rates now they should be thrown out of the public hospital system." Mr
Ryall said.
