Médecins Sans Frontières recruitment drive in NZ
Médecins Sans Frontières Australia announces recruitment drive in New Zealand
19 March 2007
The international medical-humanitarian aid organisation, Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), has announced a recruitment drive in New Zealand.
Next week, representatives from MSF Australia will be in Auckland and Christchurch recruiting future field workers. MSF staff will explain qualifications needed to become a field worker, what the recruitment procedures are and will also provide information on what the organisation does around the world.
“In Uganda, the merest gesture was lifesaving: rehydrating a child or giving it a course of antibiotics," said Dr Peter Hakewill about his first mission with MSF. "The first week I arrived, the doctor whom I was replacing went, and I realised I was the only doctor in the whole district. It was just me. I remember feeling awed by that responsibility."
Annually, more than 3000 doctors, nurses and support staff, alongside more than 25,000 locally recruited staff, work in trouble spots around the world helping those living on the edge of human tolerance.
In 2007, 91 Australians and New Zealanders worked on MSF projects around the world.
