One New Zealand businessman got more than he bargained for when he decided to grow a moustache in support of the
international ‘Movember’ campaign.
Murray Lynch, who owns the Great New Zealand Wool Company based in Whangarei, joined the ranks of kiwi men growing
facial hair during the month of November to raise money and awareness for the Prostrate Cancer Foundation.
Most men taking part in the month-long event simply shaved their moustaches off when December 1 hit…but not Murray.
Auckland-based business woman Corinna Jones had other ideas for Murray’s ‘mo’ and set him a dare.
Corinna is CEO of the Presidential Inner Circle (PIC) a private networking club for businessmen and women of which
Murray is a member.
Over a PIC dinner one night Corinna dared Murray to let her shave off his ‘mo’ and in exchange offered to give $1,000 to
the Prostrate Cancer Foundation.
Corinna said: “This might not sound like much of a dare but believe me I am no barber...so Murray was brave to accept my
proposal.”
On the day of the ‘shave off’ Murray claimed not to be nervous.
He said: “I am actually quite proud of the mo I’ve managed to grow over the last four weeks but I know my wife and
children will be glad to see it go – so it’s probably a good thing that it’s finally coming off!”
Despite Corinna’s inexperience the ‘shave off’ went without a hitch and a few minutes later Murray’s top lip was finally
free!
“Murray and I are great friends so it was all a bit of fun really and of course the real reason I dared him to let me
shave his ‘mo’ for him was as an excuse to give to a great cause,” explained Corinna.
“I was delighted to be able to present a clean-shaven Murray with a cheque for $1,000 which I know will go to support
the great work of the Prostrate Cancer Foundation.”
