ALAC Welcomes Two New Council Members

The Alcohol Advisory Council has welcomed the appointment of two new Council members, Anne Hobby and Helen Moriarty.

“We are delighted to welcome two such talented people to the Council,” said ALAC Chair Peter Glensor. “It is an exciting time for ALAC with a new strategic direction designed to guide our path over the next five years now completed.

“Looking to the future we are looking to strengthen our partnerships and expand our networks in a variety of areas. Our new appointees bring with them a wealth of experience in their specialised field, along with well developed networks with Mäori and public health and within treatment services and addiction.”

Anne Hobby is the Manager of Te Rapuora O Te Waiharakeke Trust, a Mäori Health and Social Services agency in Blenheim. She has extensive experience in the provision of services for alcohol dependence and addiction, and in public and mental health.

Helen Moriarty is a senior lecturer and Co-ordinator of Drug and Alcohol Education in the Medical School at Otago University, Wellington. She is a medical practitioner with experience in alcohol and drug issues including in the treatment of dependence, rehabilitation, addiction, general practice, public health and public health policy.

Mr Glensor also paid tribute to the two retiring Council members Dr Ian Scott and Robert Brown. “Ian and Robert have both served on the council for six years during which time they have made an impressive contribution to both Council and to our overall goal of reducing alcohol-related harm in New Zealand.”
