PM To Open Auckland’s New “Autism House”
The new home of the Auckland branch of Autism NZ – “Autism House” – will be officially opened by Rt. Hon Prime Minister Helen Clark this Thursday November 8, 2007.
Auckland Branch Manager, Felicity Roberts, says Autism House is a fantastic new project for the Autism Auckland Branch and the team are delighted that the Prime Minister is showing her support of the initiative.
“Autistic Spectrum Disorder is now more than 10 times more common than Down’s syndrome and Cerebral Palsy, yet still so little is known about its causes.
“Autism House has been designed to bring together families, professionals and service organisations that all have a similar goal – to help herald a brighter future for those individuals with an Autistic Spectrum Disorder.
“Autism House will help us achieve our vision of creating a vibrant, united community to support those individuals and families that are affected by Autism,” said Mrs Roberts.
The Autism NZ Auckland Branch provides programmes, support and services for the Auckland region - from Bombay to Wellsford. “Autism House” will help the Auckland Branch provide more opportunities for the Auckland community in the future.
Some of the programmes offered by the Autism NZ Auckland Branch include holiday programmes, parent support, training workshops, pre-school and school support, the Bright Sparks sports and recreation programme, adult support and teenage social groups.
