Latest Gas Heating Solutions Solve NZ Home Health Problems

Using gas to heat homes can solve many of the problems connected with poorly insulated houses in New Zealand.

Results of a recent study found a typical kiwi home fitted with better insulation and the latest BonaireVulcan warm air ducted Central Heating System, running off LPG gas, experienced significant reductions in condensation, dampness and associated health problems.  (See attached for further details.)

The New Zealand Government is currently attempting to reduce the cost of health issues, like asthma, which are associated with poorly insulated and heated homes while, at the same time, it wants more renewable electricity generation.

Heat pumps may be efficient but they still use peak electricity and are not the solution. AberGas CEO Gregg Brown says “The spike in electricity usage in peak times caused by heat pumps will simply result in higher electricity prices for all.

“Gas is the environmentally friendly fuel. Of all the fossil fuels available, gas creates the least greenhouse gas emissions. Used as a direct fuel instead of being used to generate electricity, gas is almost three times more efficient.”

Because heat pumps struggle to maintain efficiencies when the outdoor temperature drops below 5 degrees, the challenge is to find an alternative, cost-effective, non-electric heating solution that will also meet requirement for clean air.

“Gas central heating offers fast efficient heating of your whole home,” says Brown.

Brown says the government wants to reduce the cost of health services associated with poorly insulated and heated homes, reduce emissions from solid fuels and reduce increasing peek demands.

“The Taumaranui Warm Air Homes Air Quality Pilot Study has shown that gas is able to provide a solution to meet all the government’s objectives,” he says.
