New Zealand breaks record of most women breastfeeding simultaneously and kicks start the world wide synchronised record
with an unofficial number of 907.
The Philippines, who organised the world wide event will join in at our local time of 2pm. As 24 countries are taking
part around the world, the final total won’t be known until later tomorrow morning.
Louise James, Breastfeeding Advocate from Women’s Health Action who organised the New Zealand leg of the World Wide
Breastfeeding Record “is absolutely chuffed at the turn out in New Zealand of breastfeeding mothers and particularly the
women who were working today and took a breastfeeding break”.
All women will be counted in the New Zealand record including the mother on a flight between Wellington and Auckland,
but for the Guinness official record the venues that had 25 or more will be submitted for the World Wide record. “Ten
venues across the country reached more than twenty five with Botany Downs Shopping Centre achieving the highest in the
North Island with 38 and Blenheim in the South Island with 35 women and babies.”
“Today ends a week of celebrating the benefits of mothers and babies being skin-to-skin to initiate and sustain
breastfeeding.”
