Ryman donates $120,000 to Medical Research
Medical research in New Zealand received a significant boost today, with the Malaghan Institute of Medical Research receiving a $120,000 donation from Ryman Healthcare.
Of the $120,000 donated to the Malaghan Institute, $60,000 was raised by staff and residents of the individual Ryman villages throughout New Zealand. The $60,000 raised at the Villages, was matched dollar for dollar by Ryman Healthcare.
The fundraising events over the past year included fashion parades, fetes, movie nights, celebrity auctions, raffles and garage sales.
Ryman Healthcare Chief Executive, Simon Challies acknowledged the tremendous effort by residents and staff over the past year.
“Each year, a charity is selected by the staff of our Villages, and the Malaghan Institute received overwhelming support. We are delighted to be able to be make such a significant contribution to medical research in New Zealand,” Mr Challies said.
Graham Le Gros, Director of the Malaghan Institute said, “The Malaghan Institute of Medical Research gratefully acknowledges the generous donation made by the Ryman Healthcare Group to support our research. We also wish to thank the residents of Ryman Healthcare's retirement villages who have also contributed to this magnificent donation.”
“The funds donated by Ryman will enable us to capitalise on our research discoveries and continue our search for ways to apply those discoveries to the treatment of cancer, asthma, multiple sclerosis, arthritis and infectious disease,” said Professor Le Gros.
Ryman will present the donation this evening at their Malvina Major Retirement Village in Khandallah, Wellington.
Last year, Ryman gave $100,000 to Diabetes New Zealand and for this upcoming year the recipient will be The Neurological Foundation of New Zealand.
Ryman is a six times winner of the Australasian Aged Care Housing Award for Best Retirement Village in New Zealand.
The company provides homes and care services to more than 3000 New Zealanders, employing more than 1500 staff.
