Westpac Rescue Helicopter Rescues Second Mountainbiker in Two Days
The Wellington based Westpac Rescue Helicopter responded to the Rimutaka Incline , between Upper Hutt and the Wairarapa, late this morning after a teenager was injured after coming off his mountain bike at high speed.
The 17 year old Upper Hutt man man sustained multiple abrasions and a head injury.
He was uplifted just after midday by the helicopter with a Wellington Free Ambulance Paramedic on board.
He is said to be in a stable condition and is being treated in Wellington Hospital.
Helicopter crewman, Jon Leach said that, "once locating the man we were able to land close by with some precision flying by the pilot. It was a difficult area and much of the helicopter was hanging over the bank."
This was the second mountain biker rescued by the Wellington based Westpac Rescue Helicopter this weekend. Yesterday the helicopter uplifted an injured rider in the Marlborough Sounds.
