Media release

Good news but more action required when it comes to Section 59

The Public Health Association commended the political agreement that will see Sue Bradford’s amendment to Section 59 passed tonite.

“It’s just fantastic and is a really important signal to New Zealand communities: family violence of any form is not acceptable, especially when it comes to our kids.” Director Dr Gay Keating said today.

“Left, right and centrist parties have come together for the greater good, and they must continue to do so. Changing the law is only the beginning. All parties must now agree to provide additional funding for the positive parenting education and support our communities need.”
