About Wiremu Ohia Scholarship

Te Puna Hauora Kaupapa Māori services at Tauranga Hospital receive applications for the annual Wiremu Ohia Scholarship fund.

This fund was started in 1997 in recognition of Kaumātua Wiremu Ohia of Ngāti Pukenga and his wife Hinemanu, who did a lot of work to foster and develop Māori Health services at Tauranga Hospital

This scholarship is open to Māori students currently studying or intending to study at a recognised tertiary learning centre, for a career in the Health sector. All applicants must whakapapa to the iwi of Tauranga Moana and come from the area, with a view to returning to work at Tauranga Hospital. All applications go through a selection and interview process.
