Association of New Zealand Advertisers (ANZA) applauds decision re medicine advertising
"The Association of New Zealand Advertisers (ANZA) wants to thank all the political parties that supported direct to consumer advertising of prescription medicines (DTCA)", the Executive Director Jeremy Irwin said in a statement today.
He was commenting on the release by the Hon Annette King regarding the Therapeutic Products and Medicines Bill, which said that DTCA would continue because "it is clear that there is not the necessary support within Parliament" for a ban. "This is a victory for commonsense.
"Extensive research undertaken by ANZA showed the opposition to DTCA was basically ideological and the issue had virtually nothing to do with public health. We are extremely pleased this was accepted by most of the opposition parties in Parliament", he said.
