New Chief Executive for Health Research Council
The Chair of the Board of the HRC, Emeritus Professor Graeme Fraser, said today he was very pleased to announce the appointment of Dr Robin Olds, B Med Sc, MB Ch B (Distinction), Ph D, FRCPA to the position of Chief Executive of the Health Research Council of New Zealand (HRC). Dr Olds will replace Dr Bruce Scoggins, who leaves the HRC at the end of December 2006.
Dr Olds is currently Professor and Head of the Department of Pathology, Dunedin School of Medicine, University of Otago. Prior to being appointed to a Chair in Pathology at the University of Otago in 1994, Dr Olds held a number of positions, including a Nuffield Dominions Fellowship at Oxford University and a Research Fellowship at the Institute of Molecular Medicine, Oxford University.
His overarching research interest is in the molecular genetics of human disease and he has a significant track record as a productive researcher in New Zealand and the United Kingdom.
Dr Olds will take up the appointment in the first half of 2007.
