Pacific Island Health Day in Gisborne A First
Pacific Island Health Day in Gisborne First of its Kind
Over 200 Pacific Island people and their families are expected at the first Pacific Island Health Day to be held in the district on Saturday 11 November.
The Health Day is a collaboration between the district’s Pacific communities and Maori health service Turanga Health, said Anita Vaotuua of Turanga Health.
Health checks such as blood pressure and Well Child checks will be available. There will also be a presentation in the morning on the drug P, and adult literacy. Static displays on everything from oral health, exercise, smoking and a whole lot more will be available from 10am.
Mrs Vaotuua said in the afternoon a Pacific Aerobic Competition will be held between all the represented communities. “It’s a Pacific workout and it’s fun!”
The Pacific Island Health Day will be in the Army Hall across the road from Gisborne District Council on Fitzherbert St.
“Everyone is invited to attend. Pop in after you have visited the Farmer’s Market.”
